Metal Expanded Mesh: An Ecological Slope Stabilisation Solution for New Zealand’s Rare Earth Mines
2026-06-05
New Zealand environmental regulations require the simultaneous greening of tailings dams. When used for slope protection, the mesh of the metal expanded mesh allows the root systems of local herbaceous plants to penetrate and grow through it, achieving a slope stabilisation and greening rate of 85%. When used as a seepage control mesh for tailings dams, it prevents the loss of fine particles and has received ecological restoration certification from the New Zealand Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the Waikato Rare Earths Mine.
