Temporary fencing as a crop protection strategy on a Brazilian coffee estate

Brazil produces 30% of the world's coffee, and temporary fencing is used to protect the coffee trees from primates such as capuchin monkeys on an estate in the state of São Paulo. The mesh density is designed to be 2 x 3 cm to block animal access without interfering with bee pollination. The collapsible fence is quickly dismantled during the harvesting season to allow for easy access by mechanized harvesting equipment.
