Expanded Metal Mesh: The Benefits of Salt Fog Resistance for Coastal Transport of Iron Ore in Zimbabwe

2026-06-12

Iron ore shipments from the Port of Beira face salt spray corrosion. Expanded metal mesh, featuring a hot-dip galvanised aluminium-magnesium coating, offers a coastal corrosion resistance lifespan of up to 25 years. When used for transport jetty guardrails, it extends the maintenance cycle from two years to eight years. Based on average annual transport volumes, this reduces equipment replacement costs by US$12 million.
